0.05% (paediatric)
0.1% (adult)

Uses

  • Decongestion of nostrils

Dose and Duration

Decongestion of nostrils

Adult and child > 12 years: 2–3 drops of 0.1% preparation into each nostril every 8 hours.

Child < 12 years: 2–3 drops of 0.05% preparation into each nostril every 8 hours.

Do not use for longer than 7 days.

Contra-indications

  • Hypersensitivity to xylometazoline or other sympathomimetic agents

Side Effects

  • Local irritation
  • Nausea
  • Rebound congestion with excessive/prolonged use
  • Headache
  • Restlessness
  • Sleep disturbances

Patient Instructions

  • Discard bottle within 1 month of opening.

Pregnancy

  • Do not use.

Breast-feeding

  • Can be used.

⚠️ Caution

  • Repeated or prolonged use can cause rebound congestion and alter the nasal environment hardening the structures.
