Dose and Duration

Intestinal amoebiasis

Adult and child >12 years: 2 g once daily for 2–3 days.

Child 1 month–12 years: 50–60 mg/kg (max 2000 mg) once daily for 3 days.

Amoebic involvement of the liver

Adult and child >12 years: 1500–2000 mg once daily for 3–6 days.

Child 1 month–12 years: 50–60 mg/kg (max 2000 mg) once daily for 5 days.

Trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis and giardiasis

Adult and child > 12 years: 2000 mg as a single dose.

Child 1 month–12 years: 50–75 mg/kg (max 2 g) as a single dose.

Anaerobic infections

Adult: 2 g, followed by 1000 mg daily or 500 mg 2 times daily for 6 days.

Contra-indications

  • Blood dyscrasia or history of blood dyscrasia
  • Organic neurological disorder
  • Hypersensitivity

Side Effects

  • Nausea, vomiting, taste disturbances, anorexia
  • Oral mucositis, furred tongue

Patient Instructions

  • Take your medication during or after meal.
  • Do not take alcohol during and for 72 hours after stopping this medicine.

Pregnancy

  • Do not use in 1ˢᵗ trimester.

Breast-feeding

  • Can be used.

⚠️ Caution

  • Avoid breast feeding during and for 3 days after treatment.
  • Stop therapy if abnormal neurological signs develop.
