Uses

  • Acute leukaemias
  • Chronic myeloid leukaemia

Dose and Duration

Adult and child

100−200 mg/m² daily.

Side Effects

  • Bone marrow suppression
  • Stomatitis, gastrointestinal intolerance
  • Liver toxicity

Interactions

  • Clozapine (increased risk of agranulocytosis)
  • Live vaccines (risk of developing disease)

Pregnancy

  • Do not use.

Breast-feeding

  • Discontinue breastfeeding.

⚠️ Caution

  • Monitor liver function weekly; discontinue medicine if liver toxicity occurs.
  • Do not use for long term treatment due to liver toxicity.
  • Men and women of child-bearing age should use adequate contraception while taking tioguanine.
  • Anticancer medicines should only be handled by health workers trained and experienced in cytotoxic medicines.
