Tablet

300 mg

TDF 300 mg + 3TC 300 mg
TDF 300 mg + FTC 200 mg

TDF 300 mg + 3TC 300 mg + EFV 600 mg
TDF 300 mg + FTC 200 mg + EFV 600 mg

Uses

  • HIV/AIDS
  • Chronic hepatitis B

Dose and Duration

HIV infection, first line treatment, EMTCT (in combination with 3TC + EFV)

Adult and adolescents: 300 mg once daily.

Child 10–15 years ≥35 kg: 300 mg once daily.

HIV infection, alternative second line (in combination with 3TC + ATV/r or 3TC + LPV/r)

Adult and adolescents: 300 mg once daily.

Hepatitis B

Adult and child over 12 years and ≥35 kg: 300 mg once daily.

Contra-indications

  • Allergy to tenofovir
  • Severe kidney disease

  • Kidney damage
  • Stomach upset, flatulence
  • Dizziness
  • Rash
  • Liver damage
  • Reduced bone density
  • Lactic acidosis

Patient Instructions

  • Take medicine at the same time every day.

Pregnancy

  • Can be used.

Breast-feeding

  • Can be used.

⚠️ Caution

  • Monitor kidney function every 6 months.
  • TDF also has activity against Hepatitis B.
  • For TB patients taking rifampicin, first line regimen is composed of a triple NRTI, e.g. TDF + 3TC + AZT or AZT + 3TC + ABC.
