  • Prostate cancer (third line treatment)
  • Breast cancer in post-menopausal women

Dose and Duration

Prostate cancer

Adult: 1–3 mg daily.

Breast cancer in post-menopausal women

Adult: 10–20 mg daily.

Side Effects

  • Nausea
  • Fluid retention, venous and arterial thrombosis
  • Jaundice
  • Impotence and gynaecomastia in men
  • Withdrawal bleeding in women
  • Bone pain
  • Vaginal carcinoma (in high dose)

Pregnancy

  • Do not use in 1ˢᵗ trimester

Breast-feeding

▼
  • Discontinue breast-feeding

⚠️ Caution

▼
  • Use with caution in cardiovascular disease
  • Avoid use in hepatic impairment
  • When given in high doses in the 1ˢᵗ trimester, vaginal carcinoma, urogenital abnormalities, and reduced fertility in female offspring, and increased risk of hypospadias in male offspring can occur
  • Anticancer medicines should only be handled by health workers trained and experienced in cytotoxic medicines
