Uses

  • Prophylaxis and treatment of
  • Wound infections
  • Leg ulcers
  • Pressure sores
  • Burns

Dose and Duration

Infected burn wounds, leg ulcers, pressure sores

Apply a 3–5 mm thick layer daily. Use more frequently if the volume of fluid coming out of the wound is large. Cover with sterile gauze after applying the cream and continue use until satisfactory wound healing occurs.

Contra-indications

  • Allergy to cotrimoxazole and sulfadoxine (in SP)
  • Infants <1 month

Side Effects

  • Skin rash, burning, itching
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Haemolytic reactions

Patient Instructions

  • Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after applying the cream
  • Close the jar properly immediately after use to avoid contamination and exposure to light
  • For external use only

Pregnancy

  • Do not use

Breast-feeding

  • Do not use

⚠️ Caution

  • Haemolytic side effects can occur when large areas of burns are involved or during prolonged use
  • Do not apply other topical treatments where silver sulfadiazine has been applied
