Uses

  • Treatment of pyridoxine deficiency
  • Prevention and treatment of nerve pain in hands and legs due to isoniazid

Dose and Duration

Pyridoxine deficiency

25–50 mg every 8 hours until deficiency resolves

Prevention of nerve pain due to isoniazid

Adult and child: 25 mg once daily

Child <5 kg: 5 mg once daily

Give for as long as isoniazid treatment continues

Treatment of nerve pain due to isoniazid

Adult: 50 mg every 8 hours

Child: 50 mg once daily

Take until symptoms resolve, then reduce dose to the preventive doses for as long as isoniazid treatment continues

⚠️ Caution

  • Give pyridoxine to children receiving isoniazid prophylaxis against tuberculosis
  • Do not use high doses for long periods. Change to prevention doses as soon as possible
