Initially 500–1000 ml by IV infusion. Adjust according to patient’s response
Contraindications

Loss of plasma protein, water and electrolytes over several days or weeks
Severe congestive heart failure
Bleeding disorders

▼
Do not use if shock is due to sodium and water depletion. Use sodium chloride 0.9% instead
Do not use in burns or peritonitis when there is loss of plasma protein, water and electrolytes over several days or weeks; use albumin solution instead
Use cautiously in heart disease, severe liver disease or renal impairment. Monitor urine output of the patient closely
