PAPAVERETUM + HYOSINE

A combination of hyoscine and papaveretum (mixture of 253 parts of morphine hydrochloride, 23 parts of papaverine hydrochloride and 20 parts of codeine hydrochloride)

Dosage Forms

Injection

15.4 mg/ml of papaveretum + 0.4 mg/ml of hyoscine

Uses

  • Postoperative analgesia
  • Severe chronic pain

Dose and Duration

All uses

All doses are expressed as papaveretum dose. Give by SC, IM or IV injection, repeated every 4 hours prn.

Adult and child over 12 years: 7.7–15.4 mg

Child 6–12 years: 3.85–7.7 mg

Child 1–5 years: 1.93–3.85 mg

Child 1–12 months: 0.154 mg/kg

Child up to 1 month: 0.115 mg/kg

Elderly: initially 7.7 mg

Contraindications

  • Heart failure
  • Secondary chronic lung disease
  • Pheochromocytoma
  • All contraindications of morphine, hyoscine, codeine

  • Hypothermia
  • All side effects of morphine, hyoscine, codeine

Pregnancy

Breast-feeding

⚠️ Caution

  • Respiratory depression and withdrawal symptoms can occur in a neonate if used during delivery
