Dose and Duration

Oral candidiasis

Adult and child >12 years: Chew 500,000 IU tablet every 6 hours for 10 days

Child 5–12 years: Chew 250,000 IU tablet every 6 hours for 10 days

Child <5 years: 100,000 IU oral suspension every 6 hours for 10 days

In immunosuppressed patients, give for 14–20 days

Vaginal candidiasis

Insert 1 pessary vaginally each night for 10 days

Apply cream to the area around the vagina

Patient Instructions

Take the tablets after food
Do not swallow the pessaries
Do not interrupt treatment during menstruation
For pessaries, lie on your back so as to insert pessary as high as possible into the vagina

For vaginal candidiasis, preferably use clotrimazole pessaries
In immunocompromised (e.g. HIV/AIDS patients), nystatin is not highly effective for candidiasis; ketoconazole should be used if available
