Uses

  • Strongyloidiasis
  • Lymphatic filariasis
  • Onchocerciasis (River blindness)
  • Hyperkeratotic scabies

Dose and Duration

Strongyloidiasis
  • Adult and child over 5 years and weight >15 kg: 0.2 mg/kg as a single dose or 0.2 mg/kg/day on 2 consecutive days for chronic strongyloidiasis
Endemic lymphatic filariasis (suppression)
Adult and child over 5 years and weight >15 kg: 0.2 mg/kg annually for 5 years
Onchocerciasis (suppression)
Adult and child over 5 years and weight >15 kg: 0.15 mg/kg as a single dose once a year
Hyperkeratotic scabies (in conjunction with topical drugs)
Adult and child over 5 years and weight >15 kg: 0.2 mg/kg as a single dose

Contraindications

  • Pregnancy

Side effects

  • Mild ocular irritation
  • Somnolence
  • Raised liver enzymes

Patient Instructions

  • Avoid taking food or alcohol at least 2 hours before and 2 hours after a dose

Pregnancy

  • Do not use

Breast-feeding

  • Can be used

⚠️ Caution

  • Delay treatment with ivermectin until after delivery
  • Only treat mother when the infant is older than 1 week
