Local herpes simplex infections
Adult:
instil 1 drop in the eyes 5 times a day until complete healing, then instil 1 drop 3 times a day for another 7 days
Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to ganciclovir or acyclovir
Side Effects

Systemic effects unlikely after ocular instillation
Burning sensation, brief tingling sensations
Superficial punctuate keratitis
Visual disturbance
Interactions

Imipenem with cilastatin (increased risk of convulsions)
Zidovudine (profound myelosuppression)
