Dosage Forms

Impregnated Gauze

1%, supplied in sterile single pieces of 10 cm x 10 cm or 10 cm x 30 cm

Uses

  • Antibacterial dressing for infected skin wounds, ulcers, and burns

Dose and Duration

→ Apply a single piece of dressing to the wound

→ If the wound is wet, change the dressing at least once daily. Keep the dressing in place by using a bandage or tape

→ Cut the dressing to the size of the affected area to avoid contact with healthy skin

Contraindications

  • Uninfected wounds
  • Allergy to gentamicin, streptomycin, lanolin, or paraffin

Side Effects

  • Local irritation
  • Hearing impairment (on prolonged use)

Patient Instructions

  • Do not apply on breasts if breast-feeding

⚠️ Caution

  • Not for internal use
  • Avoid prolonged use
  • Avoid contact with mucosal surfaces as framycetin is very toxic when it gets inside the body
  • Apply after cleaning the wound
