Uses

  • Fungal skin infections
  • Ringworm
  • Vaginal candidiasis
  • Vulval candidiasis
  • Otitis externa due to fungal infection

Dose and Duration

Fungal skin infections and ring worm
Adult and child:apply cream to the lesion every 12 hours. Continue for 14 days after lesion has healed
Vulval candidiasis
Adult and child:apply cream to area around vagina and anus 2–3 times daily for 7–14 days
Vaginal candidiasis
Adult and child:insert 1 pessary as a single dose high into the vagina at bedtime for 6 days
Otitis externa due to fungal infection
Adult and child:apply 3 drops of solution in ear 2–3 times a day. Continue until discharge dries up or for a to tal of 8 weeks and for 14 days after clinical resolution

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to fluconazole and ketoconazole
  • Presence of vulvar or vaginal sores or ulcers

Side Effects

  • Local irritation
  • Allergy

Interactions

  • Nystatin pessaries (cancelled effect)

Patient Instructions

  • Wash your hands before and after every application
  • Apply a thin layer on the affected area and rub gently into the skin
  • Do not share towels, basins, or bathing sponges with uninfected people
  • Avoid use on broken skin or open wound
  • Insert the pessary while lying on your back to ensure it goes as high as possible into the vagina
  • Do not swallow the pessary
  • Do not interrupt treatment during menstruation
  • Do not have sexual intercourse after inserting pessary
  • Do not use applicator if pregnant

  • Can be used

⚠️ Caution

  • Recurrent infection may be treated by inserting 1 pessary once a week for 6 months
  • Explain use of applicator to the patient if available
