Uses

  • Muscle relaxation during surgery

Dose and Duration

Muscle relaxant during surgery
Adult and child over 12 years: by IV injection, 0.15 mg/kg; maintenance, 0.03 mg/kg every 20 minutes By IV infusion, 0.18 mg/kg/hour, then after stabilisation, 0.06–0.12 mg/kg/hour
Child 2–12 years: By IV injection, 0.15 mg/kg (0.08–0.1 mg/kg if not for intubation), then 0.02 mg/kg repeated every 10 minutes as necessary
Child 1 month–2 years: By IV injection, 0.15 mg/kg, then 0.03 mg/kg repeated every 20 minutes as necessary
Muscle relaxant during intensive care
Adult: By IV injection, 0.15 mg/kg then by IV infusion 0.18 mg/kg/hour adjusted according to response (usual range 0.03–0.6 mg)

Preparation

  • For continuous IV infusion, dilute to a concentration of 0.1–2 mg/ml with Glucose 5% or Sodium Chloride 0.9%. Solutions of 2 mg/ml or may be infused undiluted

⚠️ Caution

  • The patient should receive sufficient concomitant inhalational or IV anaesthetic or sedative medicines to prevent awareness
  • To avoid excessive dosage in obese patients, dose should be calculated on the basis of ideal bodyweight
  • Administer with caution in patients with hypersensitivity to other neuromuscular blocking drugs, patients with other neuromuscular disorders and those with fluid and electrolyte disturbances
  • Reduce the rate of administration in patients with cardio vascular disease
  • In hypothermia and myasthenia gravis, give lower doses
  • The patient should always have assisted respiration until the medicine has been inactivated or antagonised
  • No dose adjustments required in renal or hepatic failure
