Dosage Forms

Lotion

15% with zinc oxide 5%

Uses

  • Chicken pox
  • Severe local reaction after insect bite or sting
  • Herpes zoster (shingles)
  • Skin allergy

Dose and Duration

Apply until symptoms reduce
Chicken pox
Apply every 12 hours
Severe local reaction after insect bite
Apply every 6 hours
Herpes zoster
Apply 2–3 times daily
Skin allergy
Apply 1–2 times daily

Contraindications

  • Wet lesions
  • Superinfected skin

Side Effects

  • Skin irritation

Patient Instructions

  • Shake the bottle well before use
  • Clean the skin well before applying the lotion
  • For external use only
  • In case of contact with eyes or mouth, flush immediately with plenty of clean water
  • To avoid contamination, close the bottle properly immediately after using
  • Do not apply to breasts if breastfeeding

⚠️ Caution

  • For severe skin itching, calamine lotion is often not effective. Instead, use hydrocortisone cream or chlorpheniramine tablets
