Anticholinergic that reduces extra-pyramidal Parkinson-like symptoms caused by antipsychotic medicines. The symptoms include movement problems, stiffness, and shaking.

  • Extra-pyramidal side effects of antipsychotic drugs
  • Control tremors and rigidity in Parkinson’s disease

Dose and Duration

Acne
Adult: 1‒2 mg IM or IV. Repeat dose if symptoms re appear

Contraindications

  • Glaucoma
  • Urinary and prostate problems
  • Alcoholics
  • Children less than 3 years
  • Intestinal obstruction

Side Effects

  • Constipation, dry mouth, stomach upset
  • Blurred vision
  • Urinary retention
  • Confusion, loss of memory, hallucinations
  • Problems with producing and understanding language, awareness, reasoning, decision-making, and judgement

⚠️ Caution

  • Use lower doses in elderly as medicine can easily cause confusion
  • Injection used in emergency situations to provide quick relief. For regular control of extra-pyramidal side effects, use benzhexol tablets
