Uses

  • Immunisation against anthrax

Dose and Duration

Immunisation against anthrax
Adult: By IM injection in deltoid region, initial course 3 doses of 0.5 ml given once every 3 weeks, followed by a 4th dose after another 6 months and then a booster dose of 0.5 ml once every 12 months.

By SC injection, 3 doses of 0.5 ml given once every 2 weeks, followed by 0.5 ml given at 6, 12, and 18 months. Annual booster injections of the vaccine are recommend ed thereafter in patients at high risk of contact/ infection

Contraindications

  • History of anaphylaxis with anthrax vaccine
  • Severe hypersensitivity

Side Effects

  • Injection site reactions
  • Fever
  • Gastro-intestinal disturbances
  • Headache, irritability, loss of appetite, fatigue, malaise
  • Muscle pain

Pregnancy

  • Can be used

Breastfeeding

  • Can be used

⚠️ Caution

  • Postpone immunisation in patients with acute illness
